CONVENED BY:

Gwyneth Bravo, Assistant Professor of Music, NYUAD
The Translucent Borders workshop conference brought together 24 practitioners and scholars from across the globe to examine the role of dance and music at points of cultural juxtaposition. The sessions focused not only on borders as points of conflict, but on a range of types of artistic cultural encounter and their various effects. Performing artists have historically been drawn to cultures of difference. We asked the question: How can individuals reconcile the two effects of attraction and opposition at borders, and what is the relationship between them?
